Fishing on Lake Weissensee
Cast out into Carinthia’s cleanest lake
Enjoy fishing without territorial boundaries on the 6.5 km², fjord-like and mostly undeveloped Lake Weissensee. One fishing licence is valid for the entire lake. Fishing season begins on 10 May and ends on 31 October.
Lake Weissensee is home to 22 species of fish - from Reinanke and carp to pike and perch - and varies in depth from 5 to 99 metres, meaning you will enjoy all types of fishing here. Every business offers its own free lake access and most have their own fishing boat. You can also rent rowboats and electric boats from the Domenig boat hire in Neusach.
Numerous accommodations offer special services to fishing fans that are sure to make your fishing holiday at Lake Weissensee especially enjoyable. These services include not only fishing boats, but also early-bird breakfasts, freezers to store your catch, and get-togethers for anglers.
The highlight of every angler’s year is the traditional international "Golden Trout of Lake Weissensee" competition held each springtime. Throughout the season, a list with the heaviest catches is kept and an event to protect pike and perch stock takes place in autumn.
The "Golden Trout of Lake Weissensee"
You’ll see plenty of fishing rods around Lake Weissensee from 21 - 23 May 2020 - during the “Golden Trout of Lake Weissensee” international fishing tournament.
Over the past 47 years, this fishing competition has been held on Lake Weissensee each springtime. Around 200 anglers happily answer the Weissensee agricultural community’s invitation.
This competition is about catching the heaviest pike, carp, perch and chub, and the heaviest tench, Reinanke and of course the heaviest lake trout! The day’s catch can be observed at the daily weigh-in and the winner is named at an awards ceremony. But there’s more to the competition than just winning - it’s about having fun, too. A festival with prize giving ceremony, music, dancing and entertainment takes place on Saturday, 23 May 2020.
The 23nd Event to Protect Pike and Perch Stock from 21-28 September 2019
You can enjoy especially wonderful autumn days when predators are their hungriest! All anglers are warmly invited to this event.
All fishermen and women who have a valid fishing licence for Lake Weissensee are eligible to participate. Catches will be weighed at Schuler’s Weinstube in Techendorf every day from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
In the individual ranking, the five heaviest pike and the three heaviest perch are rated and awarded with a trophy. The overall weight is crucial in the overall standings. The most successful fishermen and women can win holiday vouchers and vouchers for guest fishing licences.
Go ice fishing in the Weissensee region from 1-8 March 2020.
Take the opportunity to indulge in your favourite hobby, even when it’s cold out.
Purchase a day pass for € 28.00 or a week pass for € 55.00.

Seminar: "Successful fishing on Lake Weissensee"
Catching a fish is no accident! At least, it isn’t when you know the right equipment and bait, as well as how, when and where to use it. What are thermal layers? What is plankton and what is benthos? And what does all this have to do with fishing? Martin Müller offers participants interesting insights into sustainable fishing and the world of fish.
